ABOUT THE MARTY WILSON JR ART & MUSIC FOUNDATION

MARTIN S. WILSON, JR., ESQ.

Marty Wilson, Jr. was born in the Ducktown Section of Atlantic City on April 9, 1946.  His parents, Martin S. Wilson, Sr. and Anna Marie (Chialastri) were also born in the same section and raised their family there as well.  They also had one daughter, Ellen, who remains active in the Foundation which honors her brother, Marty.

Marty loved this area a great deal and no matter what he attained in his life, he always considered himself “just a kid from the old neighborhood.”  Marty graduated from St. Michael’s School, Holy Spirit High School, St. Joseph’s College where he attained his Accounting Degree.  He entered Villanova Law School and attained his JD Degree and then continued his studies at Temple University with a Masters in Taxation.

His youth, as many others from Ducktown, spent a great deal of time in Dante Hall playing basketball, touch football in the school yard, and great times on the beach in front of Convention Hall.  One of his proudest moments in basketball was when he was a member of the first Holy Spirit basketball team to defeat Atlantic City High School.

Marty married the “love of his life” Kathryn “Tiny” Molinari in December 1969 and settled in Ventnor City where they raised three children, Kathryn, Martin and Meredith.  Today the family has grown with five grandsons and two granddaughters.  Marty loved children and would have been very proud of how his family has grown.  He now would have had his own basketball team.    When his children were young, no matter how busy he was, he took the time to coach the girls’ softball team in the Ventnor City League where Kathryn played, attended the basketball games that his son, Martin played, and the musical recitals where his youngest daughter Meredith sang.

Marty had his own law practice where he represented several casinos here in Atlantic City and was the solicitor for several municipalities.  He was affiliated with many professional, civic and charitable organizations.  In March 1987, he was chosen as “Man of the Year” by the Atlantic City Chapter of the Sons of Italy where an overflow crowd attended this event at Steve Wynn's Golden Nugget.  He also was President of the Atlantic City Chamber of Commerce and was a member of the International Association of Gaming Attorneys.

Marty was a magnet to people from all segments of the community and somehow even with his busy schedule was able to assist them in their undertakings. There are so many things Marty did for this community that would be too numerous to mention here.  Marty’s untimely sudden passing on March 28, 1993 left a large void in his family’s life and the lives of countless others in the community.  His funeral at St. Michael’s Church drew over 5,000 people, a testament to his loving and giving life.

Friends of Marty wanted to keep his memory alive and initiated the Marty Wilson, Jr. Art & Music Foundation, Inc., a 501©3 non profit organization.
