The best way to describe this body of my work is planned randomness. In the use of overly thinned oil paints on canvas, the random nature of the media allows for a randomness to occur. These "happy accidents" were first brought to my attention by my high school art teacher and I never forgot them. The loose feel of the pigment make it possible to paint with emotion and abandon that painting with a defined subject does not always allow. There is a freedom in the process that allows the pure love of color to show through. The flow of the paint and the use of various materials to remove or rub out the sections of paint allow me to lose myself in the process and almost paint subconsciously. The final piece usually leaves me feeling surprised as well as emotionally cleansed and sometimes scoured
This series consists of various pieces created from stories I have heard or ideas that struck me as particularly interesting or profound.
Some random non series works that I have done throughout the years
This series is a direct result of a recurring dream that I once had in my late teens and early 20's. The sinuous forms wrapping around each other -most often times with no known beginning or end- have been an ongoing theme in my doodles and sketch books. Reminiscent of Celtic knots and design, the pieces are a direct glimpse into the subconscious and the infinite. These forms have evolved over the years into a stylized metaphor of the human soul, clutching and entwining itself with others in an emotional dance. The interweaving of the forms into increasing complex structures, help me as the artist to lose myself in the process and the "weaving", if you will, and the mechanics of the forms.
